The Allegheny West Neighborhood Newspaper was founded in 2013 by Ronald E. Hinton, Jr., the president of the Allegheny West Foundation, (AWF). The goal of this newspaper is and will remain two-fold: To give area merchants and business owners an affordable vehicle they can use to advertise in. Also the goal of this newspaper is to give the neighbors of the Allegheny West community a vehicle where their positive news stories can be highlighted. Never before, prior to the birth of the Allegheny West Neighborhood Newspaper, has there been a community newspaper for this area of the city, that specifically targets good news stories about this community and the people of this community. Ten thousand copies of the newspaper are printed four times a year. The majority of the papers are distributed door to door in residential areas of zip codes 19140 and 19132. The remaining newspapers are distributed to the small businesses along the North 22nd Street business corridor and throughout the immediate area. In 2019, thanks to the support of PA State Senator Sharif Street, the Allegheny West Neighborhood Newspaper became the beneficiary of a community state grant to assist with the publication of the newspaper for a 12 month period. We look forward to seeking out future funding to assist us in carrying on the mission envisioned by its founder, Ronald E. Hinton, Jr.
